“How do feminists do media?”
March 13, 2020, 1 to 4 PM, UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, UP Diliman, Quezon City
The invited speakers are leaders or members of feminist groups/organizations who produce their own media content, do media campaigns, organize media workers, and/or engage mainstream media to further their feminist agenda. The forum will focus on two questions: first, “How do feminists use media to promote feminism?”; and second, “Is there a feminist way of doing media?” To answer the first question, the speakers will talk about their group, the issues they carry, their strategies that involved media production, organizing, and/or engagement. For the second, they will discuss reflections on the practice of doing feminist media and how it challenges mainstream media production processes. They will also be invited to share best practices and barriers encountered as well as their thoughts on the future of feminism and media.
