Women’s Global Strike: Womanifesto

Womanifesto

Women’s Global Strike in the Philippines

March 8, 2020

We are the women who everyday suffer from hunger, oppression, and violence in the hands of neoliberal plunder and feudal-patriarchal control.

We are the peasants who agonise from land and resource grabbing, usury, and feudal exploitation. We bear half or more of the agricultural and fishing work but our contributions are deemed as merely supplementary to those of our husbands’. We are forced to offer our bodies in exchange for a kilo of rice or fish.

We are the workers whose wages are never enough to put food on the table nor send our children to school, or to provide access to basic services. We labor under the harshest conditions, without any protection from chemicals and machines that harm our bodies, and from sexual predators that take advantage of our desperation. We produce the wealth but we are not allowed to rest, we are imprisoned if we want freedom, we are silenced if we unite and speak out.

We are the indigenous, protectors of our land, mountains, and waters against the exploitation by large corporations. Soldiers occupy our huts, schools, and villages, intimidating and assaulting us, gunning us down, raping us. We are discriminated against in the lowlands; our folkways are dismissed as backward but mainstream health and reproductive information and services remain out of our reach.

We are the migrants who are forced to leave our loved ones. Our jobs abroad are an extension of our care and domestic work at home. Employers who promise us a brighter future imprison, rape, or kill us instead. We are milking cows of a negligent and corrupt government.

We are the urban poor displaced by commercial developments from the communities we have built. We work hard all day, yet our earnings are not enough to fill our empty stomachs. We sleep with one eye open, afraid that our homes, hopes, and dreams will be crushed. Now, we are the widows and orphans of the drug war.

We are the girls and young women whose education remains commercial, neocolonial, and heteronormative. We provide the future of cheap and docile labor, we are not part of development. Some of us are compelled to sell our bodies to afford the rising cost of education. We are told to study hard but are labeled “terrorists” when we learn.

We are the wives and partners who are told to always serve and obey, to keep our suffering a secret. We have to keep the family together, but we are not allowed to decide. We are the women, repeatedly raped by a fascist president, while people around laugh and clap. When we fight, we are blamed, we are shot in the vagina.

We are the daughters whose future is shared with millions of people who suffer from imperialist greed, fascism and misogyny. In the face of tyrannical suppression of our democratic rights, we gather and fight back.

We are the women who reach out to other women, we build bonds and unities with our communities, we learn to fight to survive and survive to fight, at home, at work, in churches, in schools, in the rice fields and vast mountains, in the streets.

We vow to stand against injustice, to speak out against falsehoods and abuse, to strengthen the collective efforts of all women for liberation.

We are the women who resist.

We are the women who strike!

Manifesto ng Kababaihan

Pandaigdigang Welga ng Kababaihan sa Pilipinas

Marso 8, 2020
