On March 10-11, Gantala Press held “Biag dagiti Agay-aywan: Life Stories of Nurses” at the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library in San Fernando, La Union. The writing workshop and resulting chapbook (to be published by the press) serve to document the life and labor practices of Filipino nurses. The artist-publisher Lyra Garcellano is curating a related show on the life and work of nurses in La Union and in the country in general. The chapbook launch and exhibition opening will be held in the Library in May 2019.
The Library was established in 2017 in honor of Atty. Alfredo F. Tadiar, a judge, professor, national amnesty commission chair, and founder of alternative dispute resolution in the Philippines. It is an independent reading and research library, free and open to the public.
