BIAG DAGITI AGAY-AYWAN

“I dream of having my own house, my own car maybe, and of travelling to different places. I have to save up money for emergencies, hospitalization, and retirement. If I die now, I do not even have enough money to give myself a decent coffin or burial. … I can handle the challenges that I may encounter in my career as a nurse, but I do not think I can cope with a government that does not acknowledge the worth of the Filipino nurse.”

– Karina Inez Feraren, “Should I stay or should I go?”

BIAG DAGITI AGAY-AYWAN: Life Stories of Nurses

This chapbook is the product of a two-day writing workshop with local nurses held at the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library in San Fernando, La Union in March 2019. It aims to document the labor practices of Filipino nurses in the country and abroad. The chapbook is launched together with an exhibition on the life and work of nurses in the country’s recent history. This project of the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library is made possible with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
